Annual Dyno/Drag/Track Day for Dex Brown
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:18:43 PM »
Right now myself and a few other friends are working on setting up a scholarship at the University of Tulsa in Dex's name. This isn't an easy process, but we are really trying to make it work. Part of the plan to help raise money for the scholarship would be an annual dyno, track or drag strip day. We all know how much Dex loved to go fast, so we thought this would be appropriate. This will require help wherever we can get it (shops, individuals, companies, etc). I wanted to start gauging interest and I knew TSC would be a good place. I apologize for not having more info at the moment. It is in the very beginning stages. I will continue to update this thread with specifics, plans, and pertinent information. Thanks everyone.

Good idea! Let us know when more details are set up and we can help. Are you thinking of it to be a set amount or just keep raising?

What will be the criteria? Is it ONLY good at TU?

I wonder if we could get enough people interested to do an open track day at Hallett. I'd be down!

A little update. We got some more of the fine details ironed out. We are currently in the process of setting up the endowment. It will take $25,000 before the scholarship can start paying out annually. There are many people that are willing to donate so far and we will be setting up donation channels to help raise the money. The scholarship works by gaining interest, and then paying the scholarship only out of the interest. This means that it will be able to pay year after year and not have a drop in the principal balance. Also, it means the larger the principal (how much in donations we can get) the more the scholarship is able to pay each year. We now are getting to the point where we will need more help from you guys in outlining a game plan for an annual dyno/drag/track day/car show. Donations from individuals help greatly, but if we can set this (track/dyno/etc day) up and make it work it will help us reach the initial endowment goal and then (year after year) help increase the scholarship amount. If you guys want to brainstorm whenever you can on locations, dates, sponsors, venues, events, etc. please do so as the more ideas we can get, the better we can make this. I will update with more details soon. Thanks guys.

i'll talk to todd since i'm at the track every weekend pretty much. see if they want to set up a drag day at TRP for this event with all tech cards and concessions going to donations or designate a midnights event to it. and with Keith owning like 5 or so dealerships i'm sure i can get some money out of him   :P

but sorry for being a little too new i guess. whats the story behind this?
